WMU hosts a series of Science Olympiad events every year.  The WALI student organization runs the Science Olympiad bottle rocket launch competition.  For this event, high school and middle school students build rockets propelled by compressed air and water out of plastic bottles and other materials.  The students are also given an egg to be placed inside their rocket that must survive the launch.  Students learn about scientific concepts such as basic aerodynamics, how rockets generate thrust, and the dynamics of impact.
