unp Kick off 2022

In January of 2022 the UNP hosted a kickoff meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico for all schools participating in NS-11.

The two and a half day event was packed full of presentations, group work, and tutorials. To begin, each school presented an overview of their proposed mission. Then, various members of the UNP Program Management Office (PMO) gave a tutorial on mission design, including writing a mission statement, objectives, and success criteria. After covering some of the critical design budgets (link, data, power, etc), the students were separated into groups of 3-4 and tasked with designing a mission from a given abstract objective. Each group had one day to design their satellite and prepare a Preliminary Design Review (PDR) style presentation.

Armed with this knowledge, WALI is ready for a fantastic semester. We’d like to thank the UNP for hosting this event, and look forward to meeting again during our System Concept Review later this fall!
